The Science of Learning Research Centre (SLRC), led by The University of Queensland, has appointed a new director, Professor Pankaj Sah.

Formerly a member of the executive committee and a research theme leader in understanding learning within the centre, Professor Sah has played an active role in the development of the SLRC.

The centre’s COO Annita Nugent welcomed Professor Sah and said his experience had made him an exceptional candidate for the role of director.

“Professor Sah is renowned for his work in understanding the role of the amygdala - the area of the brain involved in emotional processing - in learning,” Mrs Nugent said.

“He has published more than 90 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of New South Wales and was awarded a PhD in neuroscience from the Australian National University in 1988."

Professor Sah has held the position of Deputy Director (Research) at UQ’s Queensland Brain Institute since 2007.

SLRC is a special research initiative of the Australian Research Council, with input from universities across Australia.
