Overview

Technological advances in neuroscience are opening avenues of research many thought impossible just a decade ago.

Ideally located within the University of Queensland, QBI has extensive investigative muscle. The institute has a suite of unique tools specifically engineered to assist neuroscientists in determining the molecular development and function of the central nervous system.

These tools include advanced Flow Cytometry facilities, featuring high-speed cell sorters and an Imaging flow cytometer, and an Affymetrix Gene Chip Array station.

The versatility, and technological expertise of the Flow Cytometry facility allows QBI to meet the unique challenges of analysing and sorting neural cell types from a variety of species, including humans in a safe and efficient manner.

Australian Cancer Research Foundation Brain Tumour Research Centre

The Queensland Brain Institute will soon commission a Brain Tumour Research Centre, established and funded through the generous assistance of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF). This much-needed $1.14 million tumour testing facility complements QBI's existing advanced imaging and flow cytometry technology and was officially opened in March 2008.

More information about the Brain Tumour Research Centre is available here.
