About the EViND Symposium:

The Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research (CJCADR) within the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) is proud to have recently marked 10 years of focused dementia research. As part of our celebrations, this CJCADR symposium aims to underscore the significance of research on extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the context of neurodegenerative diseases and broader brain functions. EVs are involved in intercellular communication by transporting and delivering cargoes such as proteins and nucleic acids that contribute to cellular homeostasis. All types of cells produce EVs, which can be detected in a variety of body fluids such as urine, saliva, blood, or cerebrospinal fluid. Notably, EVs derived from diseased cells can also transport pathological cargoes, contributing to conditions such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. The EViND symposium will discuss the role of EVs in the pathology of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Prion disease.

The event will kick off with a presentation by Professor Tsuneya Ikezu from the Department of Neuroscience at Mayo Clinic Florida, setting the stage for an insightful discourse. Joining us are distinguished international speakers hailing from the United States and the United Kingdom, and complemented by leading Australian experts in the field of EV research.
