Discovering what makes us human

Welcome to the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), home to 250 researchers, all working to unlock the mysteries of the brain to generate new knowledge, understand learning and memory, develop new technologies to improve lives, and diagnose and treat brain disease and mental health. Support our exciting research.

News

  • For the first time, Dr Shaam Al Abed and Dr Nathalie Dehorter from the Queensland Brain Institute have proven that a mild stress is enough to trigger post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in mouse models of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
  • An international collaborative research team, including scientists from the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) has discovered that G-quadraplex DNA (G4-DNA) accumulates in neurons and dynamically controls the activation and repression of genes underlying long-term memory formation.
